Get lost: travel books to inspire your next adventure.

The long, dark days of the northern hemisphere Christmas period can often leave us feeling a bit down. To escape the winter blues, I find solace in a good story, particularly those that transport me to far-flung corners of the world, guiding me along rugged paths and through unknown landscapes.

I'm captivated by books that offer a window into other cultures and their people, igniting my wanderlust and conjuring up images of warmer days, crashing waves, and thrilling adventures.

Here are some of my favourite books that will ignite your imagination and feed the travel bug.

“Che” Guevara is an icon of South America's revolutionary spirit. Even if you don’t resonate with his political views, this book is a true insight into South American culture and varied landscapes.

From the depths of the South of Chile up to Miami, Che and his friend Alberto travel across South and Central America on their motorcycles.

Che’s diary captures the essence of the people and portrays the reality of the time like nothing else.

A highly recommended read, but if books are not your thing, check out the 2004 film adaptation of the book directed by the award winning Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles.

A thrilling fiction book that contests history the way we know it. Civilisations propose an alternative world where South America's Inca Emperor ‘Atahualpa’ sets on a conquest journey to Europe. Followed closely by the Aztec Empire from Central America, changing Europe’s historical landscape forever.

A fascinating tale that will keep you up reading past your bedtime.

Surfing is a lifestyle, a way of life and Pulitzer Price and surf legend William Finnegan, knows it better than most.

Finnegan draws us into the universe of surfing during its golden age. From his beginnings as a skinny boy from California captivated by the sea to a young man surfing the world’s most incredible waves, he takes us on a journey of self discovery, the beauty and the challenges of a life dictated by the swell.

An excellent read if you’re hooked by surfing, it’s fun, witty and full of wanderlust.

Have you read any of these, what did you think?

Do you have a favourite travel book to recommend?

Let me know in the comments, I’m always in the look out for a good book!
